Light Up Nigeria#

lightupnaijaIn the symbolic year of 1789, the French revolution kicked off, changing the face of Europe forever. It was the beginning of the French republic, the greatness of the French to come and the lighting of a new beacon in People power across the world. The revolution was fueled by discontent, the differences between the 1st Estate and the much larger 2nd & 3rd Estate. Some had abundance of food, abundance of land and abundance of wealth while others wallowed in lack and a hope for hopelessness. Land was a key factor, office was another key factor and the lack of opportunity were all important in getting the French people to say “enough is enough” on the lawns of Versailles.

Fast forward to 2009 and Nigeria, again there is a divide. POWER being the key factor! The 1st estate in Nigeria are limited indeed to those who can afford the luxury of power 24 hours a day - using several diesel guzzling generators situated far away from the house for their heirs to live in oblivion of reality - distinguishing themselves from the majority. They are easy to find; in Ikoyi, VI, Lekki & all over central Abuja amidst other pockets. For the rest of the people, your schedule looses all form as it tries to conform to the presence of power. Your business is more difficult to run as you have to calculate the ever fluctuating cost of power, your children might be privileged to be exposed to monoxide poisoning as your I-pass-my-neighbor generator sings away into the Night, releasing it’s toxic fumes into the house.

This might be it, this might be the final straw. The one that would break the camel that is the Nigerian masses back. If we make enough noise online, it just might transcend into the real world. Please stay tuned to this blog as we continue to campaign.
